Through our many years of training and experience, your Neighborhood Vet Hospital team can often diagnose a skin problem by simply examining your pet. Some dermatologic diseases or conditions, on the other hand, require additional diagnostic testing to ensure an accurate and timely diagnosis. Depending on your pet’s symptoms and the results of our physical exam, we may run blood work or perform a urinalysis, skin scraping, or biopsies.

Our goal is to develop a course of care that will help keep your pet as comfortable as possible. Treatments often include the use of topical, oral or injectable medications, as well as supplements.

If we determine that an allergy is to blame for your pet’s symptoms, the next step will involve testing to determine what type of allergy we are dealing with as well as what is triggering your pet’s reactions.
